12th Zagreb Design Week: Realities We Share

Achievements and possibilities of design and its role in the world of new challenges are topics of the largest regional gathering on design, which this year differs from the previous editions in both duration and concept.

A new concept, and a longer, two-week duration is part of the new face of this year’s Zagreb Design Week which will take place from 9 to 21 September. This year’s topic is Realities We Share and it researches how to use design to bridge differences between individual and collective, innovation and sustainable development as well as different cultures and common future.

On the first day of the Zagreb Design Week, ZGDW Award, the only international design award in Croatia, will be given while the exhibition of the finalists’ work will be available until 14 September. Also, exceptionally interesting exhibitions of design masters, renowned authors from Catalonia, which is partner region, and from Germany, Switzerland, Italy, Mexico and Slovenia will be available. Within the first week, visitors will get a chance to see fashion shows, hear interesting lectures and panel discussions, participate in educational workshops and watch documentaries about design.

A change in the concept of this year’s Zagreb Design Week is also visible in the fact that in the second week the festival will transfer from its permanent setting in Jadran film to locations of partners, galleries, studios and pop-up spaces in the centre of the city. In a series of events in these locations, design will be discussed in a different way, with the language of practical work and experience of artists who have various views of design.
