33rd Edition of Zagreb Marathon: Competitors from Around Seventy World Countries to Visit Zagreb
A long tradition, excellent atmosphere, and the status of a qualifying competition for the largest marathon races in the world attract competitors worldwide to join the Zagreb Marathon.
Around 5000 adult competitors from more than seventy world countries and around a thousand children are expected to attend the Zagreb Marathon, taking place on 12 October this year.
Once again, the half marathon, marathon, 10 K and relay races are going to start at the main square in Zagreb. The registration period ends in late September. A half marathon race is 21 kilometre long, and the participants in marathon will run the same route twice for the total of 42 kilometres. Also, there is a possibility to participate in a four-member relay race, regardless of the runners’ gender.
The fact that the start and the finish line are located in the main Ban Josip Jelačić Square, and that the races take place in the city streets where citizens cheer on competitors along the entire route brings an additional dose of adrenaline and joy.
One day before the main race, there is a very attractive children’s race in which young competitors of various ages from kindergarten to the sixth grade of primary school test their speed and stamina. There is no need to emphasize that it is an event that brings a lot of emotions among spectators, parents and, naturally, young competitors.
The Zagreb Marathon is a holder of the World Athletics AIMS certificate, meaning that the course was measured by certified representatives of the World Athletics who confirmed it meets the set criteria. Owing to this fact, results achieved at the Zagreb course are valid to achieve norm for all large world competitions, the Olympics, world and European Competitions.
The Zagreb Marathon is also part of the Abbot World Marathon Majors Age Group qualifications, meaning it allows runners to qualify for participation in the world largest marathons in Boston, Chicago, New York, London, Berlin and Tokyo.
Moreover, competitors become part of the world qualification table, which is divided in six age groups so that they can compare their result with other competitors in their age group from all over the world at any moment.
