Trumpet Extraordinaire
Zagreb Philharmonic Matilda Lloyd, trumpet; Jure Bučević, conductor
“Trumpet extraordinaire” is how BBC Music Magazine described Matilda Lloyd, a musician who is redefining the voice of the trumpet on the international concert stage through impeccable tonal clarity, expressive refinement and virtuosic musicianship. Recognized not only for her musicality but also for the infectious energy with which she inspires audiences and fellow musicians alike, she was the first trumpeter to receive the Young Artist Award from the Royal Philharmonic Society in London.
In her performances, she brings together Baroque and contemporary music and reinterprets opera and orchestral classics. She presents one such concept with the Zagreb Philharmonic under the baton of maestro Jure Bučević, a distinguished conductor of international reputation who has made a particularly important contribution to the theater life of his native Split. As a guest conductor on European opera and concert stages, he has collaborated with distinguished institutions such as Teatro La Fenice and Teatro Lirico di Cagliari, as well as orchestras including Filarmonica Arturo Toscanini, the Sicilian Symphony Orchestra and the Zagreb Philharmonic.
The Zagreb Philharmonic, an orchestra with more than 150 years of tradition and one of the most enduring symbols of Croatian musical culture, has shaped the artistic life of Zagreb and Croatia for generations. This year, with four festival concerts, it once again confirms its key role in shaping the identity of Zagreb Classic.
