A Celebration of Musical Theater

A Celebration of Musical Theater is a festive gala concert by Zagreb City Theater Komedija, created on the occasion of last year’s celebration of its impressive 75 years of activity, as a survey of the greatest successes and favorite musical moments of this unique theater. It is also a reminder that musical theater, as an art form, offers room for both laughter and tears, always with a sense of hope and the beauty of the moment.

Komedija is the only theater in Croatia specialized in the musical theater form. Its strength lies in the exceptional combination of orchestra, chorus and soloists, whose interpretations captivate audiences beyond Croatia’s borders. This energy and professionalism make Komedija one of the few European theaters that meets the demanding production standards required for performances of major international titles such as Beauty and the Beast, Les Misérables and Jesus Christ Superstar, sold out months in advance. At the same time, it nurtures Croatian classics such as Gubec-beg, Dundo Maroje and the indispensable Jalta, Jalta, which, with more than 800 performances, has become a true emblem of the theater, while songs such as What Will Become of Us Tomorrow and Let This Whole World continue to delight every generation.

The song Let the Sunshine In from the legendary Hair, performed at the very close of the concert, is also an invitation to everyone, performers and audience alike, to join in song and dance, in joy, optimism and the struggle for a more beautiful world around us.
