Highlander Medvednica: A Mountaineering Challenge and Much More
A mountaineering challenge, interesting mingling and beautiful nature a heartbeat away from the capital; that is a winning combination of Highlander Medvednica.
The attractive mountaineering challenge Highlander Medvednica, which is to take place from 29 to 31 May this year, wins the hearts of participants each year with challenging paths, beautiful nature, well-thought-out activities and excellent atmosphere. The challenge has two formats, a one-day option with the route of 19 kilometres and a 3-day option with the route of 56 kilometres. The setting of these mountaineering challenges is the Medvednica Nature Park, located on Medvednica Mountain, to the north of Zagreb. The highest summit of Medvednica Mountain or Zagreb Mountain, which is its other name, is Sljeme (1033). It is a popular, activity-packed excursion site of citizens of Zagreb which is visited in all seasons.
Both Highlander challenges, even though of different lengths and intensity, are physically demanding but at the same time appealing due to beautiful nature, rich programmes and activities and pleasant socialising and entertainment.
The Highlander mountaineering experience was designed by a group of Croatian enthusiasts. Its first edition took place in 2017 on Velebit Mountain in Croatia. In the last ten or so years it spread to attractive locations in around 20 countries in Europe as well as to other continents. Due to its demanding nature but also the overall experience, it is often described as the adventure of a lifetime who many are happy to return to.
