European Championship in Artistic Gymnastics: More Than 500 Athletes From 40 Countries Are on Their Way to Zagreb

In mid-August, Zagreb will become the European hub of artistic gymnastics, hosting the largest gymnastics gathering that has taken place in the city for around forty years.

The European Championships in Artistic Gymnastics will take place in Zagreb from 13 to 23 August. On the occasion, more than 500 athletes from around 40 countries will compete at the Zagreb Arena Hall.

The capital of Croatia frequently hosts national, European and world competitions in many sporting disciplines. However, this is the largest gymnastics competition taking place in the city since the Zagreb Universiade in 1987. It is also the largest project of the Croatian Gymnastics Association in 120 years of its operation.

The Arena Zagreb Hall will be the European stage for as many as four excellent gymnastics competitions: the 36th European Championship in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics, the 37th European Championship in Men’s Artistic Gymnastics, the 15th European Junior Championships in Men’s Artistic Gymnastics and the 15th European Junior Championships in Women’s Artistic Gymnastics. The event organiser is the Croatian Gymnastics Association with the institutional support of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, the Ministry of Tourism and Sport, the City of Zagreb, the Croatian Tourist Board and the Zagreb Tourist Board.

This year’s championship will also be remembered by historic milestones for European gymnastics. For the first time in history of the European Championship, there is a prize fond for athletes but also their coaches, which emphasises their role in the success of an athlete.

Parkour, an attractive and dynamic branch of gymnastics will give special energy to the European Championship in Artistic Gymnastics. It will be presented by excellent performers in front of the Arena Zagreb Hall. Also, the scientific-professional conference “Smarter Gymnastics” will take place from 21 to 23 August as a contribution of the academic community to the development and future of gymnastics. The aim is to create a unique synergy of sports, science and education and establish international cooperation among institutions.

In addition to an exceptional athletic importance, this championship is also significant for tourism. Zagreb is famous for its hospitality, rich offer, interesting content and excellent atmosphere that will welcome athletes and their teams as well as numerous fans of gymnastics.
