58th Edition of PIF: When Puppets Take Over

As of recently, puppet shows have stopped being a part of children's world only and entered the complex everyday life of adults, which is confirmed by the International Puppet Theatre Festival PIF.

From 12 to 18 September, the 58th International Puppet Theatre Festival PIF will bring excellent puppet shows from Europe and other continents to Zagreb. Sixteen puppet shows from twelve countries will be performed as part of official programme. In addition to Croatian experts, audience in Zagreb will have a chance to see puppeteers from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Czeck Republic, Chile, Estonia, Italy, Canada, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia and Spain performing shows for children and adults.

What was once a popular belief that puppet shows are intended just for children is rejected both in Croatia and the world. What is more, those shows which are intended for children, speak about current topics in a special manner and send universal life messages equally interesting to all generations. Shows intended for adults expand this type of content.

The start of the international festival in the very centre of Zagreb on 13 September will be marked by a procession of puppets headed by a large puppet Pifko, its mascot and symbol as of 1990. This is always an attractive event equally interesting for children and adults. It is an invitation to puppet shows taking place in the Music Pavilion in Zrinjevac Park, in the very centre of the city, as well as on two locations in Novi Zagreb; on the plateau of Mamutica, one of the largest residential buildings in Europe, as well as indoors and in Travno Park. During the festival, a rich additional programme of themed exhibitions, workshops, promotions of picture books and books as well as other evets will take place, the common goal of which is to promote puppetry.
