13th Edition of Summer at MCA: Four Types of Art for a Complete Experience
The Summer at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) offers an eventful programme to lovers of contemporary film, music, visual art and dance and this year it is described by many as particularly attractive.
The Summer at MCA is a multimedia happening which is an unavoidable part of summer in Zagreb, equally appealing to both citizens and visitors of the city. The 13th edition of this event organised by the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) will take place from 20 June to 17 July in afternoons and evenings at weekends. It brings an overview of the current art-related events as well as new achievements at the multidisciplinary art scene in Zagreb, Croatia as well as the entire region.
By buying a single ticket, visitors gain access to as many as four events – an exhibition, a movie screening, a dance performance and concerts of the best regional rock and art bands. The aim of the Summer at MCA is to get closer to the notion of Gesamtkunstwerk with this blend. It is a complete artistic experience which results from the collaboration of various art forms and pop culture and from bringing them to the wider audience.
This year's edition is described by many as the best and the most appealing in the last several years. Some of the most intriguing bands of the region of older and more recent generation will perform at the MCA. Among many attractive bands, Fat Freddy’s Drop, a New Zealand, world-famous band which will be the first to perform are particularly emphasised. Critics describe it as one of the best and most authentic bands at live performances.
From 11 June to 6 September, there is an exhibition and 14th edition of the Organ Vida festival taking place on the first and second floor of the Museum of Contemporary Art. This year’s edition of the festival develops the themes which it has focused on since 2019; art practices that transform predominantly negative emotions into a visual criticism of reality. The main thematic backbone is rejecting perfectionism and the imperative of excellence and acceptance.
The movie programme, the same as every year, will gather the best European films shown in the previous season at the MCA cinema.
As for dance, there is a continuous project entitled Anti-season which presents contemporary dance and related performing practices in a context. The project becomes a focal point of contemporary dance and performing practices in Zagreb and it also presents an innovative model of collaboration between institutions and artists of independent dance scene.
