6th Super United Croatia Grand Chess Tour: The World’s Best Chess Players are Coming to Zagreb

Zagreb is welcoming a real chess spectacle for the sixth time. It is attended by the world’s best chess players.

From 30 June to 7 July, the world’s best chess players will gather in Zagreb and compete at the 6th Super United Croatia Grand Chess Tour, one of the world’s major chess tournaments. This genuine chess spectacle, taking place in Zagreb, at the Cristal Hall of the Westin Hotel for the sixth time, traditionally garners a lot of interest among chess lovers.

Norwegian Magnus Carlsen is among the chess players who are coming to Zagreb. He is one of the greatest players in the history of chess, a five-time champion of the world between 2013 and 2023, and now number one on the FIDE ratings. So far, he has played in Zagreb three times. In one of his statements, he described Zagreb as his favourite city in the world.

In addition to the world champion, five out of nine best ranked players of the world are expected to attend; the third Gukesh Dommaraju, the fourth Fabiano Caruana, the sixth Nodirbek Abdusattorova, Praggnanandhaa R as well as Alireza Firouzja who are the eighth and the nineth. The prize pool for the 6th Super United Croatia Grand Chess Tour amounts to 175.000 dollars (40.000 dollars for the first place in rapid & blitz). The total prize pool for the best chess players in the world at the Superbet Grand Chess Tour 2025 has been increased and now amounts to 1.6 million dollars.

Before Zagreb, Warsaw and Bucharest welcomed the Grand Chess Tour in 2025. After Zagreb, two competitions will take place in the USA and this year’s last competition will take place in Brazil.
