Mirogoj cemetery and sightseeing tour

The panoramic and walking tour combines the flexibility and comfort of a car or a bus with the experience of a walking tour. The panoramic tour shows you all the remote places near the city center and the Lower town while the walking tour shows Zagreb’s Upper town with all the historic sights and the city’s vibe.

If you don’t have your own vehicle, it is possible to arrange one (car, minivan or a bus). During the panoramic ride you will see the highlights of Zagreb’s Lower Town. You will be driving by the Mimara museum that hosts numerous pieces of art collected by Ante and Wiltrud Topić Mimara, Museum of Arts and Crafts, 19th century neo-baroque building of Croatian National Theatre and the seat of the biggest University in Croatia – University of Zagreb. We will drive along Zagreb’s Green Horseshoe, a sequence of 8 connected parks and squares, where you will get a chance to see one of the stations where famous Orient Express train used to stop at – Zagreb's main train station and the hotel built for its passengers – Hotel Esplanade. Just opposite of the train station is the square named after first Croatian king -Tomislav with his statue and a breathtaking Art Pavilion behind it. Panoramic tour by vehicle usually lasts approximately 30 minutes.

After the panoramic tour, our first stop is Mirogoj cemetery. Known as one of the most beautiful cemeteries in Europe. The construction of the Mirogoj cemetery was started in the 19th century by Hermann Bolle, architect also known for building Zagreb’s Cathedral. Mirogoj is known as an open-air museum where one can see beautiful statues and breathtaking old arcades. Some of the most important people in Croatian history rest in peace at Mirogoj cemetery, and it’s a cemetery where people of different religions are buried. Walk through the old arcades takes around 30 minutes.

After the panoramic tour, we continue our walking tour and the visit of two historic settlements – Kaptol and Gradec – from which Zagreb, as a capital city, developed. On Kaptol you will not only learn about the biggest Cathedral in Croatia and Croatian Catholic Church but you will also get a chance to discover our picturesque farmer’s market Dolac. After crossing the border between the two hills, today the loveliest walking street in Zagreb, you will climb up to Gradec, better known as Zagreb’s Upper Town which we will enter through the medieval Stone Gate. In Gradec you will get a chance to see the seat of our country’s administration, the Parliament and the Government, as well as the St. Mark's Church with the famous coloured roof, baroque church of St. Catherine's and the medieval Lotrščak tower. In order to get to the final point of the tour, there’s an option to use Zagreb's Funicular, originally built in 1890, also known as the shortest funicular in Europe. Final point of the tour is Zagreb’s main square – Ban Jelačić Square.

Jesse Eisenberg a passé l'automne 2007 à Zagreb.
